Land swap in Arizona goes ahead for the Resolution Copper Project

Phoenix(ScrapMonster): Under the Copper Triangle of Arizona, 1.6 billion tonnes of copper ore had been trapped, beneath about 7,000 feet of rocks for approximately billions of years, and then under the piles of government paper works, but now at the end, recent developments which were initiated last week has finally pulled out the treasure trove of the precious metal within the reach of man.

According to the estimation of the geologists, Resolution mine, located in Arizona, could provide 25 percent of the country’s copper production, for the next coming 40 years, which could be utilized in the construction  industry, automobile industry, the energy industry, Medical Industry and also in even in the production of coins. The Resolution Copper Mine, is a joint project by the two giants in the mining industry, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton. Both the companies have already spent about 1.2 billion dollars in order to dig a 28 foot diameter shaft, which is about 3.1 miles deep. But days ago the mine was facing challenges and protests from the environmentalists, and mainly by the Native Americans.

Rep. Matt Salmon stated that, extreme environmentalist group had done everything they could in order to stop the project from coming true. He also added that, the impact of the mine over the environment is very minimal. He also stated that the government had been studying the project for over a decade. The environmentalists are arguing about matters which are not at all related to science.

The land swap deal of the company was buried deep in the 1600 pages of the National Defense Authorization Act for the financial year of 2015, which President Barrack Obama signed last week. According to the land swap deal, in exchange of the copper rich 2,400 acres of land federally  owned by the government, the company would present the government of US with 5,300 acres of private land in the country, which is owned by the company. The Resolution Copper Mine is one among the other 80 active copper mines in the Arizona Copper Triangle, but once the mine starts production, it is guaranteed that, Resolution Copper Mine, will become the largest copper mine in Arizona.
