Kyocera partners with SecondWave Recycling to take back used cell-phones

SAN DIEGO (Scrap Monster): San Diego-based Kyocera Communications has launched a nationwide cell phone recycling program in partnership with SecondWave Recycling. The recycling initiative is aimed to reduce the environmental impacts caused by improper disposal of ell-phones. At the same time, it will also raise funds for ‘Cell Phones for Soldiers’- a non-profit organization that helps veterans and on-duty personnel to get connected to their families.

According to Kyocera, the take back program will be completely free. All brands of phones will be accepted through the program. Donors are allowed to print shipping labels and the company will arrange shipping containers for phones at no cost. The collected cell-phones will be transported to SecondWave Recycling’s facilities where they will be recycled for raw materials, in accordance with EPA standards. For every four phones collected, a donation of $1 will be made to ‘Cell Phones for Soldiers’.

Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing, Kyocera stated that the launch of the take back program establishes the company’s continuing commitment to responsible e-waste recycling. Meantime, Ryan Rubel, co-founder, SecondWave Recycling expressed hope that the collaboration with Kyocera will help create awareness about e-waste recycling and encourage more people to recycle their old phones.

The San Diego-based SecondWave Recycling LLC is a family owned and operated business that conducts free phone recycling programs to support various charities. Kyocera Communications, Inc. is a division of Kyocera Corporation that creates innovative products including mobile phones, solar power generating systems, printers, copiers, electronic components, semiconductor packages, cutting tools and industrial components.
