Japan's total refined Copper exports to China rise 160% y-o-y in June: Customs data

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): Japan's total refined copper exports to China, which also include billet and others, rose by 160% year-on-year to 71,368 tons in June this year, as per latest monthly customs data released by the Ministry of Finance on Monday. China is the world's biggest consumer of copper.

According to the customs data, country's copper cathode exports to China nearly doubled in June as compare to a year earlier.

The strong gains came off a low base a year ago, when a magnitude 9.0 earthquake damaged smelters in the world's third-biggest refined copper producer, prompting them to sharply curtail exports in the three months through June.

Country's cathode exports to China advanced by 95% year-on-year to 17,248 tons in June this year, accounting for 40% of Japan's cathode exports.
