SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), the country’s exports of common steel products dropped during the month of June this year. However, the steel exports to the US climbed higher during the period.
The country’s exports of steel products totaled 3.58 million tons during the month of June this year. The exports have dropped 2.1% when compared with those during the same month last year. Japan had exported 3.66 million tons of steel products during June ’13.
The exports to China totaled 512,000 tons during the month, 5% higher over the previous year. The exports to Asian countries totaled 2.75 million tons, accounting for more than 75% of the total exports by Japan during this period. The exports to Asian countries were down 4.8% in June ’14 when compared with the exports during same month the previous year.
On the other hand, the Japanese steel exports to the US went higher by 18.5% to 205,000 tons in June. The country’s steel exports to the US had totaled 173,000 during June last year.
The total export revenue generated by steel products amounted to ¥332.9 billion in June ‘14, down by 0.4% upon comparison with revenues generated during the same month a year ago.
