Japanese scrap exports climbed higher during July '14: MoF

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The scrap exports by Japan during the month of July inched higher, as per the latest data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance. According to MoF data, the country’s scrap exports totaled 711,000 tons during the month. The exports were higher by 18.9% when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago.

South Korea was the largest importer of Japanese scrap during July this year. The Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 400,000 tons during the month, accounting for 43.2% of the total scrap exports by Japan during the month.

The cumulative scrap exports by Japan during the initial seven-month period of the year totaled 4.45 million tons. This is 17.2% down when compared with the exports during the corresponding seven-month period in 2013.

The country’s total scrap exports for the entire year 2014 were estimated at 7.63 million tons.

Meanwhile, the average price of Japanese H2 scrap increased slightly during the fourth week of August. This is the second consecutive week of price rise.
