Japan tin consumption declines sharply in Q1: WBMS

Japanese tin consumption declined 23% year-on-year to 6.3 Kilo tons in the first quarter of this year, as per latest data released by World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS).

LONDON (Scrap Monster): Japanese tin consumption declined 23% year-on-year to 6.3 Kilo tons in the first quarter of this year, as per latest data released by World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS).

According to WBMS, global tin demand declined by 4.3% year-on-year to 89 kilo tons in January-March this year.

Global production of refined tin (excluding re-processed LME metal) was up by 0.2 kilo tons, compared with January to March 2011. Apparent tin demand in China was 13.8 per cent higher than during the first quarter of 2011.

WBMS also added that, the refined tin production was 30.3 kilo tons in March 2012 and demand was 30.1 kilo tons.

The tin market recorded a fractional deficit of less than 0.1 kilo tons during January to March 2012 and there were no DLA deliveries during the period, they .

Total tin stocks fell in January by 1.4 kilo tons and rose during February and March and ended the quarter 2.5 kilo tons higher than at the end of last year. Almost all recorded stocks are now held in Asia.
