Japan pressurizes on Thailand to hike steel import quotas

BANGKOK (Scrap Monster): According to a senior executive  in one of the Thai based steel companies, the government of Thai, is planning on to increase the quota of steel imported from Japan, as a part of pleasing the local steel producers, even after the high pressure put down on the country by Japan.

The Thai official and the officials from Japan will have a meeting for next week, regarding a final decision based on the quota of the company. For the last few months both the Japanse steel producers and Japanese based steel manufacturer operating in Thailand, has been pressurizing the government to increase the quota of high quality Japanese steel to Thailand, tax free.

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce  in Thailand, last week, had moved further beyond the line, and had asked the Thailand government to increase the quota of tax free Japanese steel to a couple more million tonnes.

The  Japanese steel manufacturers have been arguing that the Japanese based automotive companies operating in Thailand will require more amount of high premium imported steel from Japan in order to increase their production  of the vehicle.

The former Secretary General of Thailand Board of Investment, Udom Wongviwatchai, stated that the government understood the difficulties of the Japanese based car companies in Thailand and has asked them to give the exact amount of steel required by the companies.

The current production of the automobile industry of Thailand is 2 million units, and the companies are planning to increase their output for the next year, so according to the  estimations the production in the year 2015, will be increased to 2.5 million units.
