ISRI inks new pact to modernize stolen metal tracking and recovery system

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has signed a new contract aimed at modernizing the tracking and recovery system for stolen metals. The contract signed with Salient CRGT aims to revamp the existing application by adding new features. The software major will support ISRI’s recovery efforts by providing application development, data hosting and IT modernization.

ISRI currently uses a web tracking application named ScrapTheftAlert.com-an enhanced online tool to help law enforcement fight the theft of metals and other materials. According to ISRI, Salient CRGT will now transfer the web application system to its hosting facility. The application will also be connected with law enforcement networks such as the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Data Exchange (N-DEx), and the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS). By providing connection to its Voyager Query for Law Enforcement, the system will provide credentialed law enforcement users with a portal to enable them to inquire about data in other secure, restricted systems.

ScrapTheftAlert.com is an online theft alert system that is available to law enforcement, recyclers, and property owners — free of charge. The system allows law enforcement, corporate security, and victims of metals theft to post alerts that are then sent to system users within a 100-mile radius of the theft location. When warranted, the alert radius can be expanded to larger areas. It contains several enhanced features including easy user interface for registering and submitting alerts, ability to select multiple locations to receive alerts, search capabilities with unlimited timeframe, Customizable search parameters by material, region, date, and key word and ability to extract search results into Excel. The alert system has been successful in generating over 18,000 alerts and has already assisted in recovery of nearly $2 million worth of stolen materials till date. It has nearly 21,000 active registered users.

In addition the ISRI had also created StopMetalsTheft .org, a website that serves as a service and one-stop resource to law enforcement, prosecutors, recyclers, and other interested parties on the issue of metals theft, by offering additional tools and information on theft of metals and other materials.
