PERTH (Scrap Monster): Iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased by12.7% year-on-year to 22.8 million metric tons (mt) in August and advanced by 16.8% month-on-month, as per the latest data released by Port Hedland Port Authority.

According to the data, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 16.7 million mt in August, increased by 11.9% month-on-month and up 16.9% year-on-year.

South Korea was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in August, with shipments totaling 2.7 million mt, rose by 2.3% year-on-year and up 75.5% compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to Japan amounted to 2.4 million mt in August, increased by 10.8% month-on-month and down 2.7% year-on-year.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
