DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in August this year has remained more or less flat when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of August 2016 totaled 4.414 million metric tons, flat when compared with the 4.416 million metric tons production achieved during July this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production during the month. India and Saudi Arabia were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during August this year was 1.250 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in August remained almost unchanged when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.252 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in August 2016 totaled 1.235 million metric tons, which is marginally up when compared with the previous month output of 1.228 million metric tons. The Saudi Arabian DRI output in April this year amounted to 420,000 metric tons, which is same as the previous month output.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in August 2016 is as follows: Canada (145), Mexico (415), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (40), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (45), Egypt (236), Libya (67), South Africa (23), Qatar (200) and United Arab Emirates (337).
