Could you think of making bricks out of paper waste? Students at Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University in India have made it possible
AHMEDABAD, INDIA (Scrap Monster): Could you think of making bricks out of paper waste? Students at Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University in India have made it possible. The students here have effectively turned paper waste to noise and thermal resistant bricks for construction.
Members of the Clay Club at CEPT University have come up with strong but light paper bricks that could be used in insulating walls for temporary structures. The paper bricks are claimed to be noise and thermal resistant.
These students are still on the process of chalking out different dimensions of the paper bricks, the right length and width. These paper bricks are not of the size of usual brick, but using paper bricks would be an eco-friendly way of construction as a lot of top soil is being dug for the mud and trees are being cut to make bricks.
The students’ idea is to use paper bricks for insulating walls in houses. To be safe, one can construct two layers of normal bricks at the base and then build a wall of paper bricks as the latter are not water-proof.
Students think that these paper bricks can be effectively used for temporary structures, and they claim this can also be used for making settings for dramas and films too. Students have advised the public to use their paper bricks whenever they build a temporary structure which could also save our environment creating lesser debris and waste.
