Indian state unplugs exploration activities to find traces of gold

NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): The Indian state of Odisha has proposed to undertake exploration activities in nearly 81,000 square kilometers of area in a bid to find traces of gold, gemstone and coal. The State Steel and Mines Department has sought the help of Geological Survey of India (GSI) to carry out the surveys. According to government sources, the Odisha government has earmarked nearly Rs 8 crores in the current fiscal.

The survey would cover 80,707 square kilometer of land in Northwest and Central Odisha. The gold survey would include Giringkela area of Sundergarh, whereas the survey for gemstone will be carried out in Kalahandi district. The State government will be assisted in exploration activities by Odisha branch of the GSI.

The State government would also spend Rs 27 crores to further strengthen the online tracking system for mineral movement in the state. The output capacity of Odisha Mineral Corporation will be improved. The State government’s move follows the budgetary proposal to boost the revenues from mining sector.

According to preliminary studies conducted by the GSI, gold deposits have been discovered in 18 different locations spread over the state. The surveys conducted by GSI have also revealed huge deposits of variety of gem stones, gold and diamond. Also, these deposits have been found to be viable for commercial production.
