Indian police to reward alert citizens with gold coins during Ganesha festival

MUMBAI (Scrap Monster): On the occasion of the famous ‘Lord Ganesha Festival’, the Mumbai City police in India have stepped up security on all streets across the city. In an innovative step, the police have announced rewards for citizens who spot unattended suspicious objects. Alert citizens will be rewarded with a gold coin. The gold coins will be sponsored by ICICI Bank.

The City police called upon the residents to be vigilant during the festive season. It requested city residents to spare a minute of their busy schedule to look around for suspicious object, person or vehicle. If noticed, the police should be informed immediately, said Rakesh Maria, Mumbai Police Commissioner.

As part of this unique scheme, a bag or any other item would be placed at randomly picked up places by the police itself. If any person spots these objects, he/she will be rewarded a gold coin. The same reward will be given away to persons who spots unattended or suspicious objects even if they are not placed by the police.

The ultimate aim of the program is to prevent occurrence of untoward incidents at the temporary shrines where Lord Ganesha idols are placed. It also aims to develop alertness among citizens to any unattended suspicious object.

The City Police will paste over 25,000 posters across the city to inform the residents about the initiative.
