Horsham scrap metal yard fire under investigation

CANBERRA (Scrap Monster): WorkSafe has begun investigating into the operating process at a Horsham scrap metal yard which was burned by a huge fire last week.

According to reports, the fire erupted at the yard area of Manhari Metals in Hamilton Road, south-west Victoria. It burned piles of crushed scrap cars, sending thick black smoke. However, timely action by firefighters from Country Fire Authority District 17 team helped to contain the fire without allowing it to spread to the adjoining factory and tyre warehouse. The fire was not suspicious, but the exact cause of it is still unknown.

A WorkSafe official visited the yard site Friday in order to investigate the operating procedures followed by the business unit.

The fire is said to have destroyed approximately 500 crushed scrap cars.
