Hong Kong's scrap exports dropped further in Dec '14

BEIJING (Scrap Monster):  According to latest trade statistics released by Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, the scrap exports by the country declined sharply during the month of December last year. The country’s scrap exports during Dec ’14 totaled 106,778 tons. The exports have dropped by 25.8% when compared with the country’s scrap exports during same month in 2013. Month-on-month, the scrap exports grew by 19.5%.

The largest destination of exported scrap from Hong Kong was China. The scrap imports by China totaled 30,425 tons during the month, accounting for almost one-third of the total scrap exports out of Hong Kong.

The second largest importer of scrap from Hong Kong was Taiwan. The imports by the country totaled 30,222 tons during the month of December. In third place was Vietnam with total imports of 24,277 tons. The other major destinations of scrap exports from Hong Kong were: Indonesia (12,974 tons), Thailand (5,996 tons) and India (2,125 tons).

The cumulative ferrous scrap exports by Hong Kong during the entire year 2014 totaled 1.259 million tons. The exports during the year jumped higher by 5.6% when matched with the exports during the previous year.

The largest importer of scrap from Hong Kong during 2014 was Vietnam. The scrap imports by Vietnam totaled 361,212 tons, constituting 28.7% of the total tonnage exported by the country. The other major scrap export destinations were China (323,590 tonnes), Taiwan (249,524 tons) and Indonesia (138,547 tons).
