Global DRI output continue to rise in June

The recent statistics released by the World Steel Association indicates further rise in production of Direct Reduced iron (DRI) by world producers during the month of June this year.

Global DRI output continue to rise in June

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in June this year has increased significantly by 4.5% when compared with the previous month.

The world DRI production during the month of June 2015 totaled 5.142 million metric tons, which is higher by 4.49% when compared with the 4.921 million metric tons production achieved during May this year.

According to World Steel data, India ranked first in DRI production during the month. Iran and Saudi Arabia were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by India during June this year was 1.539 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in May declined marginally by 1.2% over the previous month. Iran’s DRI production in June this year totaled 1.340 million metric tons, which is 28.7% higher when compared with the previous month output of 1.041 million metric tons. The Saudi Arabian DRI output in June amounted to 460,000 metric tons, which is 2.95% lower when compared with the output during May this year.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in June 2015 is as follows: Canada (137), Mexico (445), Trinidad & Tobago (110), Argentina (78), Peru (8), Venezuela (105), Egypt (225), Libya (70), South Africa (135), Qatar (220) and United Arab Emirates (270).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for more than 87% of the global DRI production in 2014.
