Global crude steel production drops 2.7% m-o-m in June '14, says data

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 65 member countries was 137.122 million tonnes (Mt) in June this year, 3.1% higher than the production during same month the previous year.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during June this year was 14.200 Million tonnes (Mt), lower than the May 2014 production of 14.935 Mt by 4.92%. Other European countries produced 3.272 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 2.31% when compared to 3.198 Million tonnes production achieved during the previous month. The CIS countries’ crude steel production dropped by 3.66% from 9.457 Mt to 9.111 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America was down by 3.16% from 10.169 Mt in May to 9.848 Mt in June this year.

The total crude steel production by South America during June this year declined by 5.57% to 3.594 Mt. African countries produced 1.310 Million tonnes of crude steel, dropping by 3.75% when compared to 1.361 Million tonnes production achieved during May this year. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during June this year was 2.307 Million tonnes(Mt), lower by 7.31% when compared with the previous month’s output of 2.489 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production too declined by 2.1% from 95.021 Mt to 93.026 Mt. However, the total crude steel production by Oceania region went higher by 4.12% month-on-month from 0.437 Mt in May to 0.455 Mt in June this year.
