France's iron ore imports drop slightly in November

According to import statistics released by EUROSTAT, France's iron ore imports declined marginally during the month of November last year. The imports totaled 1.482 million tonnes during the month.

France's iron ore imports drop slightly in November

PARIS (Scrap Monster): The iron ore imports by France during the month of November last year declined considerably in comparison with the imports recorded during the same month a year ago. This is as per the latest trade statistics released by EUROSTAT. The imports during the month dropped slightly by 1.2% year-on-year.

The country’s iron ore imports during the month totaled 1.482 million tonnes. The iron ore imports had totaled 1.50 million tonnes during November last year. The average import price during November last year has declined by 31.4% over the previous year to $49.50 per tonne CFR. The prices had averaged at $72.16 during the same month a year ago. The total value of imports amounted to $73.36 million, significantly lower by almost 32.22% when compared with the import value of $108.24 million recorded during November 2014.

The largest import source of iron ore by France during Nov ‘15 was Brazil. The total imports from Brazil amounted to 843,000 tonnes. The second largest exporter of iron ore to France during November last year was Canada. The total imports by France from the country totaled 593,000 tonnes.

The cumulative iron ore imports by France during the initial eleven-month period in 2015 totaled 14.325 million tonnes. The imports during this period were 8.2% lower when matched with the imports during the corresponding eleven-month period in 2014. Brazil remained the top exporter of iron ore to France. The imports from Brazil totaled 6.687 million tons, accounting for nearly 47% of France’s import during Jan-Nov ’15.
