Forestry group highlights contributions to Ontario’s economy

TORONTO (Scrap Monster): A new group initiated by The Grain Farmers of Ontario, The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM), The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association and forestry stakeholders has highlighted the contributions provided by the agriculture and forestry sectors to the economy of Ontario. ‘Growing Ontario’ has also announced to raise awareness about the contributions made by these sectors.

According to FONOM, forestry and agriculture sector are key drivers of many local economies across the province. Combined together, these sectors account for nearly $30 billion in economic activity in the province. The new group will work together to highlight the immense contribution made by these economic sectors to the building and development of Ontario.

“In many respects, forestry and agriculture face many of the same pressures and will benefit from working together to raise awareness of our work so that Ontarians have a better understanding of what is actually going on in our forests and fields.” Said Mark Brock, Chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario.

The organization aims to demonstrate the importance of forestry and agriculture in the lives of Ontarians. At the same time, the group aims to become the voice of several concerns and pressures faced by these sectors. It represents the interests of over 28,000 grain farmers, more than 50,000 forestry workers and nearly 120 municipalities whose economies are driven mainly by these resource sectors.
