Firefighters extinguish scrap metal yard blaze

TORONTO (Scrap Monster): Peterborough firefighters doused a blaze at Nurse Scrap Metal on Thursday (Jan. 29).

Around noon, a fire started in a vehicle parked in the scrap metal yard, says Peterborough fire Platoon Chief Rolf Erdmann.

Smoke could be seen bellowing from the business on Erskine Avenue near The Queensway. Part of the road was closed to allow emergency personnel to access the site.

Platoon Chief Erdmann says a worker at the business called 9-1-1 after the vehicle caught fire. The blaze spread to four other vehicles parked nearby.

At points, small explosions could be heard from the site.

Platoon Chief Erdmann says the fire is not suspicious and no one was injured.
