Fire situation across Canada mostly under control during the week, says CIFFC

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster) : According to weekly statistics released by Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), the fire situation across the country remained quiet. Most provinces are reported to be under low fire hazard. The current national preparedness is at level 1.

As per CIFFC data, most provinces in the country are at level 1 for preparedness, indicating low fire hazard. The provinces with level-1 preparedness are British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and PEI.

The only province grouped under level-2 preparedness is Nova Scotia, where fire hazards are seen at low to moderate levels.

The provinces falling under level-3 preparedness, indicating moderate to high levels of fire hazard are Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Parks Canada

The CIFFC also states that there were 156 fire incidents across the country during the week, burning 28,137 hectares. Alberta reported 53 fire incidents. In terms of hectares burned, Saskatchewan topped the provinces with 19,204 hectares.

According to statistics, a total of 46,448 hectares have been burned to date. Assuming that  a hectare of forest is worth $20,000 , the estimated loss due to fire incidents would exceed $928 million.
