Fire engulfs Worth County scrap metal facility

COLUMBUS (Scrap Monster): Fire broke out at a Worth County scrap metal business around 6.30 PM Monday. It took almost 45 minutes for firefighters to bring the fire under control.

The incident occurred in Automotive Core Supply (ACS) at Pine Knoll at the yard area where automobiles are scrapped. Nearly 22 cars caught fire. Black smoke was visible from within Sylvester city limits.

The fire crews from Worth County Fire department were at the scene immediately. They found the gate of the facility locked. The key holder was immediately contacted and the gate was opened. Over a dozen cars were involved in the fire. Big fire was brought under control by 7.30 PM. Small sparks and explosions could be heard even after that. The fire fighters stayed in the site until 8.30 PM.

No injuries were reported as there were no employees at the scene when the fire had occurred. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The Fire Marshall has been contacted to investigate into the cause of fire. However, there will be no investigation from the state office.

The privately held ACS is located near the intersection of Pineknoll Rd and US-82 in Sylvester, Georgia. It buys all types of salvage cars and scrap metals. Established in 2010, the company has an annual revenue of $1 to $2.5 million.
