DENVER (Scrap Monster): Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire that broke out Sunday afternoon at a scrap metal yard in Denver, creating a plume of smoke that was visible for miles.
Denver Fire says the fire started at around 4:45 p.m. at 4920 N. Washington St. The fire started in one of the scrap piles, and it was deep seated -- meaning it took some effort to find it.
Two firefighters tasked with battling the blaze were taken to the hospital.
One of them had heat-stress-related injuries. The other was hit when a hose burst.
Temperatures in Denver soared to a record high of 101 degree Sunday afternoon – conditions that led to wildfires across the state.
