Exports of US Brass Mill Products Surged 17% in H1 2017

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): The latest trade statistics released by the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC) suggests that the exports of brass mill products by the US surged higher during the month of June this year when matched with the previous year. The imports too stood higher during the month. The country recorded rise in exports, imports during the first half-yearly period of the year.

The rise in import and export volume is mainly attributed to the robust activity witnessed recently in construction and automotive sectors.

Imports-June ‘17

The imports of brass mill products by the US totaled 44.237 million lb during June this year. When matched with the imports during the same month a year before, the June ’17 imports were up by 8.1%. The imports had totaled only 40.921 million lb in June last year.

The largest exporter of brass mill products to the US during the month was Germany. The imports from Germany totaled 10.586 million lb. The second largest supplier was South Korea with 5.554 million lb. The other key exporters of brass mill products to the US were Mexico (5.127 million lb), Vietnam (4.445 million lb) and Canada (3.533 million lb).

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.323 million lb in June. All pipe and tube products imports totaled 17.529 million lb. The imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.332 million lb. The US imported 3.053 million lb of copper alloy wire during the month.

Exports-June ‘17

The US exported 24.538 million lb of brass mill products during the month, up sharply by 17% over the previous year. The exports during the same month last year had totaled only 21.021 million lb.

The leading importer of brass mill products from the US during the month was Mexico. The exports to Mexico totaled 9.704 million lb. The other leading export destinations were Canada (6.548 million lb), Thailand (1.173 million lb), China (1.168 million lb) and South Korea (970,507 lb).

Exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 10.534 million lb in June this year. All pipe and tube products exports totaled 4.761 million lb. Exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 7.502 million lb. Copper alloy wire exports totaled 1.740 million lb.

Cumulative Imports and Exports: H1 2017

The cumulative imports of brass mill products by the US during the initial six -month period of the year totaled 245.833 million lb, up by 6.3% over the corresponding period last year. The country’s imports had totaled 231.273 million lb during the corresponding half-yearly period in 2016.

The cumulative exports surged higher by over 12% from 120.950 million lb in Jan-June ’16 to 135.636 million lb during the opening six months of 2017.
