Europe's Aug '14 crude steel output marginally up by 0.4%

CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World steel), the crude steel production by EU-28 countries rose marginally by 0.4% during the month of August year-on-year.

The highest output during August was achieved by Germany. Germany produced 3.133 Million tonnes during the month, which is marginally lower by 1.0% when compared to the country’s output of 3.166 Million tonnes during August 2013.

The lowest output was by Croatia. However, the total crude steel output by Croatia surged 103.2% higher from 2,000 tonnes in August 2013 to 5,000 tonnes in August this year. On a year-on-year basis, Croatia recorded the biggest increase in production.

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Slovakia and the UK recorded increased year-on-year crude steel production. Slovenia recorded biggest drop in production, falling by 10.8% from 54,000 tonnes to 48,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first eight months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
