ERI’s nationwide recycling facilities earn NAID AAA certification

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Fresno, California headquartered ERI has announced that its Badin, North Carolina facility has achieved AAA certification for data destruction from the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID). With this, all of the company’s recycling locations nationwide have received the prestigious certification. The company now is the electronics recycler with the largest NAID certified footprint in the ITAD space in the US. It must be noted that ERI’s California, Colorado, Indiana, Massachusetts, Texas and Washington locations had been certified earlier by NAID.

John S. Shegerian, chairman and CEO of ERI noted that the company is proud to have received the certification for its facility in the great state of North Carolina. The recognition is a testimony of the efforts undertaken by ERI on an organization-wide level to adhere to highest possible operational standards. By achieving NAID certification for all its nation-wide facilities, ERI has set the bar extremely high in proper destruction of private digital data, Shegerian added.

Meantime, NAID CEO Bob Johnson stated that ERI has turned out to become an industry role model by addressing the ever-growing concern for businesses and retail consumers with regards to secure data destruction. By achieving the certification, ERI has fulfilled their customers’ compliance obligations regarding selection of responsible service provider, Johnson added.

ERI had recently won the “Top Project of the Year” honor at the annual Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards for ecycleNYC electronics recycling initiative in collaboration with the New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY). Environmental Leader’s expert panel of judges had delivered exemplary rating to the ecycleNYC recycling initiative and had appreciated the working model of the program where the entire recycling process is funded by electronics manufacturers at zero cost to consumers. The program had recently achieved an important milestone by expanding its access to 2.3 million residents and collecting 10 million pounds of used electronics for safe recycling.

As part of expanding its portfolio beyond electronics recycling, Electronics Recyclers International had recently rebranded itself into ERI.

A company must meet several requirements to receive the prestigious NAID AAA certification. The auditors perform extensive background checks on employees to ensure that no person convicted of a crime has access to confidential material. Each step of the process right from the point of receipt of device with confidential information to its final disposal will be closely monitored. Breach to security at any point in the process will deny AAA certification to the company. Moreover, the NAID auditors may conduct unexpected visits to certified locations to ensure ongoing compliance.
