ERI partners with iFixit to recover electronic device parts

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) has entered into a partnership with iFixit to resell valuable electronic device parts. The partnership aims to tap the growing demand from the electronics repair services market. iFixit plans to expands its online reselling business by accepting raw components from ERI, initially from its Fresno, California facility. The scheme will be expanded to all of ERI’s facilities by next year.

It must be noted that iFixit engineers had run a pilot programme at the Fresno facility earlier this year, helping ERI staff to recover salvaged electronic components rather than shredding them. According to John Shegerian, CEO, ERI, the pilot project turned out to be a huge success, providing full sets of replacement parts for a variety of devices. He further added that the tie-up with iFixit will generate healthy revenue stream for the company, especially at a time when shredding business revenues have started to decline on account of huge drop in value of extracted metals including copper.

Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the world’s largest privately held recycler of electronic waste, is e-Stewards and R2 certified to de-manufacture and recycle every type of electronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner. ERI processes more than 275 million pounds of electronic waste annually at eight locations serving every zip code in the United States.

iFixit is a wiki-based site that teaches people how to fix almost anything. Anyone can create a repair manual for a device, and anyone can also edit the existing set of manuals to improve them.
