EACOM Timber's FPAC Membership To Advance Success Of Forest Products Industry

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): EACOM Timber Corporation has announced that it has joined the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC)-a prominent voice for Canadian wood, pulp and paper producers in government, trade and environmental affairs.

Kevin Edgson, CEO, EACOM stated that the company is proud to join the movement and is looking forward to working with the Association and its other members to promote the social, economic and environmental benefits of forestry. He acknowledged that FPAC is a strong voice for Canada’s forest products industry. Meantime, Derek Nighbor, CEO, FPAC stated that the organization is proud to have EACOM as its new member. The company’s commitment to sustainable forest management practices will make it an invaluable addition to the FPAC family. FPAC is looking forward to working with EACOM to advance the success of the forest products industry, Nighbor added.

Recently, the company had earned Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Certification to the Fiber Sourcing Standard and Chain of Custody Standard at its Ear Falls, Ontario sawmill. The Fiber Sourcing Certification, valid until April 2020 is in recognition of its responsible sourcing of wood fiber. Also, the Chain of Custody certification, valid until April 2022, grants access to SFI certified forest content tracking mechanism. Earlier in 2016, the company was granted SFI Certification, valid until January 2019, for the management of the Pineland and Spanish forests located near Timmins and Nairn Centre.

Earlier in March this year, EACOM Timber Corporation had announced complete purchase of Anthony-EACOM shares from Canfor Corporation. The purchase had added an engineered I-joists plant in Sault-Ste. Marie, Ontario to its assets and had resulted in transfer of over 50 employees to the management of EACOM.

The company has been making significant investment at its mail facilities over the past several years. During early-2017, EACOM had announced successful installation of a new Lumber Grading System at its Elk Lake, Ontario planermill. Prior to that EACOM had replaced two sawing lines and edger and reconfigured the co-products handling system. As per estimates, the company has invested over $13 million to Elk Lake Sawmill since 2012. Also, EACOM has invested over $6 million at its Val-d’Or sawmill since 2013. The company focuses on continuous improvements at its facilities, as part of its growth strategy, said Edgson. The investments are aimed at positioning the company better for future stability, he added.

EACOM Timber Corporation owns seven sawmills-five in Ontario and two in Quebec, a remanufacturing facility in Val-d’Or, Québec and an engineered wood mill in Sault-Ste. Marie, Ontario. Founded in 2008, the company currently employs nearly 1,100 people. EACOM is engaged in management of forest resources and also in manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products.
