DSF to showcase world's longest gold chain

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): Dubai is reportedly making the world’s longest 22-carat hand-made gold chain. The Chain named ‘Dubai Celebration Chain’ will measure between five and eight kilometers in length and will weigh approximately 180 kilograms. The chain will be showcased as part of promotion event for this year’s Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) scheduled to be held from January 1st to February 1st, 2015.

By making this unique gold chain, Dubai plans to add another Guinness World Record to its name. The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group will make the monstrous gold chain in association with four leading jewelers- Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Siroya, Sky Jewellers and Jewel One. Around 70 workers are working on the chain, which is expected to be completed by end-December.

Once the chain is measured by the Guinness World Records committee, it will be put on display for two to three days at Gold Souq during first week of January. The display is expected to spread nearly 200 metres. The Jewellery body is closely working with Municipality and Police authorities on the logistics requirement towards displaying the chain.

Gold customers in the country are offered a chance to be a part of this world record. Those interested can book for a piece of the chain at any of the four jeweler outlets by paying deposit money. Pre-booking is scheduled to commence on December 1st. The pieces of chain will be offered as bracelets or smaller chains. Bracelets will weigh up to 8 grams, whereas chains will weigh up to 26 grams. The order will be delivered within 10th January, 2015.

Earlier in 1999, Dubai had unveiled 4.1 kilometer long gold chain weighing 238 kilograms, as part of DSF promotions.
