Domtar accomplishes key sustainability goals

HARTSVILLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar Corporation has highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to meet the stated sustainability goals. The ‘2015 Sustainability Report’ released yesterday also lays outline to the upcoming journey towards becoming a more sustainable business going forward. According to John D. Williams, President and CEO, Domtar, the company is committed to remain as a true leader in sustainability.

The report underscores the progress made by the company in achieving stated sustainability goals. Nearly 75% of the electricity used in the company’s pulp and paper mills was self-generated. This is significantly high when compared with the US Pulp and Paper Industry average of 59%. Further, the company gives top priority to safety at workplace through strict adherence to set safety standards. As a result, it has reduced the recordable safety incident rate by 52% since 2008.

In addition, Domtar has reported 23% drop in waste sent to landfills from its pulp and paper mills over the past two years, thereby saving millions in landfill costs. In 2014 alone, Domtar has contributed $1.35 million in donations to community investments. The company also achieved a remarkable milestone during the year by selling the five-millionth ton of Forest Stewardship Council® certified paper, the first to do so in entire North American region.

The company reported total sales of $5.6 billion from business spread across nearly 50 countries.

Domtar Corporation designs, manufactures, markets and distributes a wide variety of fiber-based products, including communication papers, specialty and packaging papers, and absorbent hygiene products.
