CTA Honors Outstanding Innovators of Consumer Technology Industry

CTA Honors Outstanding Innovators of Consumer Technology Industry

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The San-Diego-based Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has honored five industry leaders for their path-breaking contributions to consumer technology industry. The selected leaders were presented with top accolades during the CTA Technology & Standards Awards Luncheon held on the final day of the association’s Fall Forum.

The winners of the CTA awards in various categories were Matthew Diamond of Nokia Technologies; John Simmons of Microsoft; Poppy Crum, chief scientist at Dolby Laboratories; Mead Killion, president and CEO of Etymotic Research, Inc.; and world-renowned sleep expert Max Hirshkowitz.

Dave Wilson, vice president, technology & standards, CTA noted that the winners were selected based on their incredible contributions to the CTA standards program and the key roles played by them in improving consumer experience. Their unique expertise and leadership has helped to make big contributions to the consumer tech industry which continues to deliver better lives for communities around the world, Wilson added.

Matthew Diamond and John Simmons won the Technology Leadership Award. Diamond was selected based on his contributions as the vice chair of CTA's Health and Fitness Technology Division Board in combining technology with health, fitness and wellness. The CTA’s Web Application Video Ecosystem (WAVE) Project under the leadership of Simmons had delivered remarkable contributions in efficient distribution of video content to consumer devices.

CTA’s Technology Achievement Awards were won by Poppy Crum, Mead Killion and Max Hirshkowitz. Crum and Killion had been instrumental in developing the CTA-2051 standard, which offers hearing-enhancement solutions through high-quality amplification techniques. Also, Hirshkowitz was the leader in developing new standards ANSI/CTA/NSF-2052.1 and ANSI/CTA/NSF-2052.2 which are expected to revolutionize sleep tracking technology and bring in notable improvement in user experiences. Incidentally, the sale of devices meant to amplify ambient sound is expected to jump 40% year-on-year to 1.5 million units in 2017. CTA forecasts further 50% growth in 2018.

CTA’s Technology Leadership Awards honor industry volunteers for demonstrating long-term industry leadership through active participation in CTA’s standards program. The Technology Achievement Awards recognizes individuals for their contributions based on latest technologies. It also evaluates the efforts made towards bringing about significant enhancements to existing technologies.
