Crude steel output by South America slightly up during Oct '14

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries increased marginally during the month of October this year.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during October was 480,000 tonnes, 0.6% higher than the October 2013 production of 477,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 3.052 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 2.7% when compared to 2.971 Million tonnes production achieved during October 2013. The Chilean October crude steel production saw sharp dip of 13.9% from 110,000 tonnes in October ‘13 to 95,000 tonnes in October this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia plunged 28.3% to 85,000 tonnes in October this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel production was up year-on-year. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 60,000 tonnes in October this year, 23.1% higher from 49,000 tonnes during October last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output remained flat during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru went higher by 18.9% year-on-year from 88,000 tonnes to 105,000 tonnes. The crude steel output of Uruguay too surged by 5.8% to 10,000 tonnes. Venezuelan production declined sharply by 28.8% year-on-year from 148,000 tonnes to 105,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first ten months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
