Crude steel output by South America dropped during Sep '14

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries declined during the month of September this year.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during September was 464,000 tonnes, 0.3% higher than the September 2013 production of 479,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.86 Million tonnes of crude steel, lower by 3.8% when compared to 2.975 Million tonnes production achieved during September 2013. The Chilean September crude steel production saw dip of 1.0% from 96,000 tonnes in September ‘13 to 95,000 tonnes in September this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia improved by 5.4% to 120,000 tonnes in September this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel production was up year-on-year. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 55,000 tonnes in September this year, 4.6% higher from 53,000 tonnes during September last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output soared higher by 14.0% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru went higher by 6.4% year-on-year from 89,000 tonnes to 95,000 tonnes. The crude steel output of Uruguay too surged by 11% to 10,000 tonnes. Venezuelan production plunged by 27.8% year-on-year from 132,000 tonnes to 95,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first nine months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
