Covanta Announces Second Major Acquisition of Canadian Operations

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Morristown, New Jersey-based environmental solutions provider, Covanta Environmental Solutions has announced acquisition of Kitchener, Ontario-based private company Quantex Environmental Inc. This is the second major acquisition of Canadian operations by the company, following the acquisition of Quebec-based Sorinco Inc. during last year.

Paul Stauder, president of Covanta Environmental Solutions noted that the above acquisitions have led to significant expansion in the company’s service area. Furthermore, they have helped the company to offer a wide range of new services such as industrial liquid waste treatment. The strategic acquisitions have led to absorption of innovative solutions and techniques used by these companies to help Covanta emerge as the market leader amidst challenges. Being part of wider Covanta platform, these companies now provide more robust and comprehensive services to its customers, Stauder said.

Meantime, Covanta has been engaged in several attempts to expand its presence in the Canadian market. As part of its efforts to address environmental issues at existing facilities, the company had recently partnered with the University of Buffalo to study the environmental and economic impacts of its Niagara Falls waste-to-energy facility. The team, which is expected to analyze waste collection, processing and transportation operations at the Niagara Resource Recovery Facility, is expected to submit its report later this year.

Covanta, a world leader in waste-to-energy solutions, currently has 17 material processing and recycling facilities across the entire North American region. These facilities collectively process approximately 20 million tons of waste from municipalities and businesses. The company also recycles approximately 500,000 tons of metal every year.
