On Sunday, the Grasberg open pit copper mine located in the Indonesian Island of New Guinea, all the activities were suspended due to the investigation conducted on the basis of vehicle collision associated with the mine.

JAKARTA (Scrap Monster): The work at the world’s largest open pit copper mine was suspended after the death of four people and injuring of five others in vehicle collision. In a statement, PT Freeport Indonesia, said that, the operations in the Grasberg open pit mine would be suspended due to the incident associated with the accident.

Daisy Primayanti, the vice president of the company’s corporate communications stated that the accident occurred in the open pit mine. Just after the collision occurred the rescue team associated with the mine arrived to provide help and to speed up evacuation processes.

The men involved in the accident died suddenly after the collision occurred. An investigation is taking place regarding the death of the four men, at the same time the five injured are being treated in the nearby urban village created near to the mine for its purposes.

She also stated that, for the company safety is its most main priority, therefore it wouldn’t compromise with that. Until all the matters in the mine is cleared it will remain closed.
