Copper export declines in Zambia

The changing price of copper in the international market, has declined the value of copper exports in Zambia from about K 3.8 million to K 3.7 million dollars in the month of November, revealed a recently published report.

LUSAKA (Scrap Monster): The report from a Central Statistical Office, indicated that, the reduction in the export value indicates a decline of about 5.5 percent. John Kalumbi, the director of CSO,commented on the report that, the volume of copper exports in Zambia, in the month of October, was reported to be 89,000 tonnes, but in the month of November, the volume decreased to 87,000 tonnes., he added that, the price of copper I the international market declined to 6,340 dollars in the month of November, from the value of the commodity in the month of September, which was 6,840 dollars. This represents a sharp decline of about 0.4 percent.

The non traditional exports of the metal, according to him, increased to K 1.6 million in the month of November, from K1.2 million in the month of October. During the period, which is under review the major NTE’s products of Zambia, where noted to be precious and semi precious stones, which contributed for over 14.9 percent of the exports. 12.19 percent of the exports from Zambia, was contributed by tobacco.
