FLORIDA (Scrap Monster): Coal producers are expected to benefit from the nuclear crisis in Japan, as the major nuclear reactors will no more generate power for the country.

Coal is supposed to the next best alternative for power generation for jpan said Robert Reilly, Peabody's senior vice president for business development at the Platts Coal Properties and Investment conference in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Japan is the world's largest coal importer, buying a mix of metallurgical and thermal coal that totaled up to 165 million metric tons in 2009, according to International Energy Agency estimates, Platts.com reported.
