'Clean Up the World' campaign collects 400 kilograms of recyclables in 2 hours

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): The residents of Mirdiff, Dubai collected record 400 kilograms of recyclables in less than 2 hours. The massive collection drive was part of the ‘Clean-up-the-world’ campaign organized by Dubai Municipality in association with Dulsco. The campaign is being conducted to increase awareness about waste recycling benefits among Mirdiff residents.

The event was held in Mirdif Park during the weekend between 5 pm and 7 pm. Residents brought in huge quantities of waste including paper, cans, plastics and bottles. Educational games were organized as part of the event and exciting gifts including iPads were given away to residents in reward to their contribution towards maintaining clean and healthy environment.

The Dubai Municipality thanked Dulsco for the support extended in making the event a big success. It called upon the residents to actively participate in municipality recycling efforts. According to the municipality, similar collection drives will be soon organized in other resident communities across Dubai. It further stated that such collection events will help Dubai to uphold its position as the cleanest city in the region. The City aims to become the most sustainable city of the world by 2020.

In support to the campaign, Dulsco also organized a clean-up drive in Jumeirah in partnership with KGS School. Earlier during the year, the company had partnered with Dubai Municipality for the ‘My City My Environment’ campaign.

Dubai Municipality had launched the ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign during early-November this year under the slogan ‘Our Place Our Planet Our Responsibility' in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
