City of Roanoke receives grant for single-stream recycling

FALLS CHURCH (Scrap Monster): The City of Roanoke, Virginia has been selected as the fourth recipient of the 2014 grant cycle of ‘Recycling Partnership’. The City will use the funds to switch from dual-stream collection system into single-stream recycling collection. It must be noted that the earlier recipients of the grant were Florence, Alabama, Columbia, South Carolina and Richmond, Virginia.

The Recyclign Partnership has awarded $40,000 towards outreach and educational resources to create awareness among City residents of the new approach which is expected to be rolled out in October. The cart distribution to as many as 32,000 households, funded by Recycling Disposal Solutions, will commence by mid-August. Additionally, ‘The Recycling Partnership’ will provide services and support worth approximately $139,000. The Solid Waste Management Division plans to appoint a media agency to conduct high quality media campaign.

Meantime, Greenville, South Carolina has been selected as the second recipient of 2015 grant cycle by ‘The Recycling Partnership’. The grant will be used towards purchasing new recycling carts and educational resources. Further, ‘The Recycling Partnership’ will also provide necessary technical assistance to ensure operational best practices. The grant will be used to purchase 96-gallon recycling carts, which will enable collection of more quality materials across the region. The distribution of new carts is expected to commence in April 2016. It must be noted that East Lansing, Mich. was the first recipient of the 2015 grant cycle.

The Recycling Partnership is a non-profit organization that leverages grants and technical assistance to transform curbside recycling systems within the United States.
