Citizen's tip leads to copper thief suspect's arrest

LAS VEGAS (Scrap Monster): An alert citizen provided officers with information regarding an in progress crime that leads to the arrest of a suspect in a Las Vegas copper theft.

Jason Samuel Larussa, 36, is at the Clark County Detention Center facing felony charges of theft of scrap metal (two counts); buying/possessing/receiving stolen property; and burglary.

According to a Metro news release, DTAC patrol officers received information July 26 regarding a person suspected of stealing cooper from the US Vets building on East Bonanza. The information was provided by a concerned citizen who witnessed the crime take place early that morning.

The following day, the citizen saw the suspected cooper thief in the East Bonanza area and notified officers.

Officers arrested Larussa on unrelated charges, and DTAC Property Crimes Detectives assumed the investigation.
