CIS crude steel output dropped sharply in August '14

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) dropped by 6.5% during the month of August year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Byelorussia surged higher by 46.0% during August this year to 225,000 tonnes from 154,000 tonnes in August 2013.  Kazakhstan produced 280,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 17.7% when compared to 238,000 tonnes production achieved during August 2013. Moldova recorded 40,000 tonnes steel output during the month. The total crude steel production by Russia was up 5.8% from 5.833 Million tonnes in August 2013 to 6.169 Million tonnes this August.

There was a marked decline in Ukraine’s crude steel output in August. Ukraine’s total crude steel output declined sharply by 37.0% to 1.767 Million tonnes in August 2014 when compared to the output of 2.804 Million tonnes during August last year. Also, Uzbekistan’s crude steel output dropped slightly by 0.8% during the month of August this year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first eight months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
