China’s plywood exports dropped 8% in 2015

China’s plywood exports dropped 8% in 2015

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): According to the latest statistics released by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Chinese plywood exports dropped significantly during 2015.

The exports totaled 10.77 million cubic metres, down 8% when compared with the year before. The Chinese plywood exports had totaled 11.71 million cubic metres during 2014. The value of exports has declined by nearly 5% year-on-year to $5.5 billion in 2015. The Chinese plywood exports in 2014 had amounted to $5.8 billion in 2014.

The main destination of Chinese plywood exports was the US. The exports to the country accounted for 17% of the total value of exports by China during 2015. The other key export markets in terms of value were the UAE (6.8%), the UK (6.7%), Japan (6.2%) and South Korea (6.1%).

According to ITTO data, the average price of plywood shipped to developed countries was higher when compared with shipments to less developed countries. The average export price to the UAE witnessed an increase of 19%, whereas those to Philippines and Saudi Arabia were up by 3% and 7% respectively. The average plywood export prices to the US, Japan and South Korea declined during the year.

The Nanjing Port accounted for 40% of the country’s plywood exports during 2015, followed by Qingdao Port with an export share of 36%. Meantime, plywood exports through Tianjin Port witnessed sharp downfall of 47% over the previous year. The average price of shipments through the port surged higher by 64%. Also, Shanghai and Nanjing Ports too recorded rise in average export price by 6% and 2% respectively.
