China uses minimum boron to get maximum rebate on steel exports

The increase in the Chinese exports of steel, with exemption of tax in many of the Asian countries, has charged the country with accusation that China’s steel mills are exploiting the market, by selling the steel at a cheaper rate than the domestic price.

China uses minimum boron to get maximum rebate on steel exports

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The steel exported from China, contains boron, which hardens steel and makes it suitable for producing tools and also for using in the mining purposes, as the steel is of high quality, the Asian countries charge less tax for the product.

In contradict to the argument of china, steel makers from India stated that the amount of boron added to the steel exported from China is at a minimum level, a cover up to avoid the burden of tax, the cheap exported steel from China had led to the decline of many steel mills in the country.

A metal analyst, Jeremy Platt, based in steel consultancy at MEPs stated that, the arguments stated by the steel mills are right, there is a big loophole behind the tricks of china. The country is receiving tax covers on the export of steel which five times larger than the amount of money needed to add 0.00008 of boron in per tonne of steel, which is exported.

This minimal amount of boron added to the steel exported from China, doesn’t make it good for any other uses, but classified into the category of special steel and therefore, covering them from the high tax, and enable them to sell cheap.
