Chetwynd pulp mill likley to resume operations in July

VANCOUVER (Scrap Monster): According to media reports, Paper Excellence Canada Holdings Corp. is planning to restart operations at its Chetwynd mechanical pulp mill in B.C, Canada. The mill restart is likely to bring significant economic benefit to the local community and create as many as 120 direct jobs in the region.

Earlier during March last year, Paper Excellence had reached an agreement to acquire Tembec’s Chetwynd, B.C pulpmill for a ‘nominal amount’. The mill has an annual production capacity of 240,000 t of hardwood BCTMP. The operations at the mill had been idled since September 2012. Since its purchase, Paper Excfellence Group is believed to have made fresh investments of approximately $50 million.

Tembec had purchased the Chetwynd mill in 2002. After operating for nearly 10 years, the company had announced on September 16, 2012, the indefinite closure of the mill owing to market conditions. The mill had employed 115 workers at the time of closure.

Headquartered in Richmond, BC, Canada, Paper Excellence has close to 2 million tonnes of pulp production capacity, 550,000 tonnes of paper production capacity through 6 mills in Canada, 2 mills in France in cities of Saint-Gaudens and Tarascon, and 1 paper mill in Germany. Paper Excellence employs approximately 2,600 employees in Canada.

Tembec is a manufacturer of forest products – lumber, paper pulp, paper and specialty cellulose pulp – and a global leader in sustainable forest management practices. Tembec has operations in North America and France.
