According to the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), the utilization of paper for recycling across its member countries is likely to drop marginally in 2015.

CEPI predicts marginal drop in utilization of paper for recycling in 2015

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), the utilization of paper for recycling across its member countries is likely to drop marginally in 2015. The Association forecasts 0.7% drop in utilization to 47.2 million tonnes during the year. The prediction is based on own data and company data available until mid-November this year. CEPI’s 18 member countries include 17 EU region countries plus Norway.

The preliminary utilization data suggest a growth of 1% over the previous decade. This is when compared with the utilization of paper for recycling in 2005. It must be noted that utilization rates improved over the decade despite sharp drop of 7.6% in paper and board production over the ten-year period.

CEPI predicts marginal drop of 0.3% in total paper and board production during 2015. The production is expected to total 90.8 million tonnes during the whole year. The graphic paper production is expected to register a decline of 4.3% over the previous year to 35.4 million tonnes. On the other hand, packaging paper and board production is expected to grow 2.3% year-on-year to 44.3 million tonnes in 2015. Also, production of sanitary and household paper will total 7.1 million tonnes, 1.5% higher when compared with last year.

Also, CEPI member countries may report 2.8% rise in paper and board industry turnover in 2015, in comparison with 2014.
