Central Maine Power Company reports surge in copper thefts from power substations

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The officials at Central Maine Power (CMP) Company stated that there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of copper theft incidents at power stations during recent times.

The CMP spokesperson stated that by trying to steal copper wire from substations, the thieves are putting themselves at huge risk of losing their lives. Further such acts also endanger the life of power crews and general public. In addition such acts also lead to widespread power outages in the region. The damage and repair charges are quite substantial when compared with what the thieves earn out of selling the stolen wires.

Meanwhile, CMP has decided to enhance the security measures at substations. The company has decided to work closely with law enforcement agencies to curb intruders from making entry into its premises. Incidentally, Central Maine reported huge surge in copper theft incidents.

In a joint investigation with Waterville cops, Winslow Police were able to identify suspects involved in a string of copper theft crimes. Michael Grant of Skowhegan,30 was arrested by Oakland Police while trying to sell some of the stolen copper wires at a recycling facility. He was later charged with Felony Theft in connection with copper thefts from CMP substations in Winslow, Waterville, Augusta, Farmingdale and Windsor
