Cascades Inc. Inaugurates Upgraded Quebec Facility

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): Cascades Inc. celebrated official inauguration of the expanded corrugated packaging plant in Drummondville, Quebec. The ceremony held yesterday was attended by Dominique Anglade , Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation, Laurent Lessard , Minister responsible for the Centre-du-Québec region and Alexandre Cusson , Mayor of Drummondville apart from Cascades employees, customers and suppliers.

The company had carried out 45,000 square feet expansion at the facility by investing around $26.4 million. The expansion included addition of a new corrugator equipment in 2016. The addition of the high-performance equipment had helped the company to boost the plant’s efficiency, making it one of the highly efficient plants of that category. According to company press release, the official inauguration ceremony was held upon completion of the ramp-up period.

According to Mario Plourde , Cascades President and Chief Executive Officer, the expansion of Drummondville plant is a clear testimony of the company’s ongoing efforts to modernize its manufacturing capabilities. The investment has helped the company to consolidate its position as a leader in containerboard packaging in the Northeastern US and Canada. Furthermore, it has provided long-term security to almost 214 existing jobs at the plant.

Meantime, Charles Malo, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascades Containerboard Packaging noted that the new equipment produces higher-quality packaging, thereby helping the company to better serve its customers. Also, the new equipment offers increased efficiency and flexibility, he added. Malo thanked government authorities for granting loan amounting to $6 million. He also thanked company employees and partners for their dedicated effort in making the expansion happen within the stipulated time frame.

As part of its restructuring plan, Cascades had recently announced permanent closure of its containerboard packaging plant in 55-15 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, New York by end of next year. At the same time, it had committed investment of $80 million towards construction of a new state-of-the-art containerboard packaging plant in New Jersey, USA. Earlier in July this year, it had announced official inauguration of the new state-of-the-art, 284,000-square-foot tissue converting facility in Scappoose, Oregon.

Founded in 1964, Cascades Inc. produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres.
