Canadian billet manufacturer to build remelt facility in Ohio

COLUMBUS (Scrap Monster): Ontario-based aluminum billet manufacturer-Matalco Inc. will build their new $92 million remelt plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The groundbreaking of the new plant has been scheduled for September 17th. The public announcement with regards to this is expected early next week, according to sources.

Matalco had considered other locations including Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania for the plant, before finally confirming Lordstown. The Lordstown Village Council is believed to have approved 75% tax abatement for 10 years. The plant is supposed to produce 6000 series extrusion-grade aluminum billet and create nearly 60 jobs in the region. The remelt plant would produce nearly 300 million lb of aluminum billet annually. However, the company did not comment on the tentative schedule of commencement of production at the plant.

The scrap requirement of the billet plant will be handled by Triple M Metal’s Brampton plant. Incidentally, Matalco and Triple M Metal are subsidiaries of the Giampaolo Group.

Matalco Inc is Canada’s largest processor of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It produces 6000 series extrusion grade aluminum billets primarily from scrap aluminum. With 350 million lbs of recycled billet capacity, Matalco is one of the largest independent aluminum billet recyclers in North America. The company currently has two locations-Brampton, Ontario and Canton, Ohio.
