Canada accounted for 65% of US Nickel scrap exports in February

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics released by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) indicates that the country’s Nickel scrap exports totaled 2,549 tons during the month of February this year. Canada accounted for over 65% of the Nickel scrap exports by the country during the month.

Canada was the largest importer of nickel scrap from the US during Feb ’16. The imports totaled 1,662 tons, valued at $5.6 million. Sweden imported 427 tons during the month. The value of nickel scrap imports by Sweden amounted to $985,000. In third place was Japan with imports of 155 tons. The value of nickel scrap exports by the US to Japan amounted to $753,000 in Feb ’16.

The cumulative nickel scrap exports by the US during the initial two-month period totaled 4,688 tons. The largest importer during Jan-Feb ’16 was Canada. The exports to Canada totaled 3,326 tons, followed by Sweden (748 tons) and Japan (216 tons). The US Nickel scrap exports during the two-month period in 2016 were valued at $16.265 million.

The nickel scrap exports during February ‘16 totaled 2,549 tons, rising considerably by 19.20% when compared with the exports during January. The country’s Nickel scrap exports during January this year had totaled only 2,139 tons.

The export prices of US Nickel scrap increased marginally by nearly 3.2% over the previous month to $3,518.58 per ton during Feb ‘16. The exports prices to key destinations including Japan, Australia and the UK registered significant increase during the month.
