Call2Recycle to run awareness campaign on battery recycling

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster):  Atlanta-based Call2Recycle Inc. has decided to run a month-long consumer awareness campaign in honor of National Battery Day which falls on Feb 18th. According to the national battery stewardship organization, the campaign titled “Lead the Charge on National Battery Day” will run throughout this month.

According to Linda Gabor, vice president of marketing and customer service at Call2Recycle, the batteries which are used to power popular consumer gadgets must be brought for recycling when they no longer hold a charge. Gabor stated that the organization is pleased to promote battery recycling across North America in partnership with its collection partners on the occasion of National Battery Day.

A recent press release by Call2Recycle had stated that battery recycling collection during the year 2015 totaled 12.6 million pounds, rising by 5% when compared with the collection during 2014. This is the 19th straight year that the organization has reported year-on-year rise in collection volumes. The surge in collection volume is primarily attributed to enhanced consumer awareness in both Canada and the US.

As part of the campaign, consumers are invited to join the Lead the Charge sweepstakes, and to recycle their batteries at a Call2Recycle drop-off site in Canada. Call2Recycle’s collection sites will accept all types of household batteries, weighing up to 5 kilograms each.

The National Battery Day is observed annually on February 18th, to commemorate the birth of Alessandro Volta, who invented battery.

Call2Recycle presently has close to 30,000 collection locations across North America. Almost 90% of residents in the US and Canada has access to Call2Recycle’s public drop-off locations within a distance of 10 miles. Operating across the U.S. and Canada, its marquee battery recycling program Call2Recycle® is the oldest and largest consumer battery stewardship program.
